PEKEMA asks MITI to increase the used imported vehicles to 50,000 units a year

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association (PEKEMA) has submitted a request to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) to increase the imported used vehicles from 35,000 units to 50,000 units per year by maintaining imports of RM10,000 per unit.

PEKEMA President, Datuk Mohamed Nazari Noordin explained, this is because the increase in imported vehicles will bring benefits to all parties involved in the imported car vehicle industry and downstream industry.

He believes that the move will be able to increase the economic output of more than RM2 billion each year which is donated from the imported vehicle industry because it brings the results of the vehicle import fee to the MITI and the Department of the Royal Customs of Malaysia.

At the same time, the proceeds are also obtained from import duties, export duties and sales taxes as well as generating income for other industries involved such as banking, insurance and vehicle warranties.

"The government policy that introduced the Open AP Policy has increased the number of AP holders from 100 companies to 300 companies so far. Therefore, the allocation of 35,000 APs per year is insufficient to be used by all PEKEMA experts.

"I really hope that MITI can approve the application to add 15,000 used imported vehicles to 50,000 units a year in order to give more space for growth in the national vehicle market.

"In terms of sales percentage, it is only 6.8 percent of TIV as much as 725,000 by MAA for 2023. Other than that, not all PEKEMA expert vehicles can be sold in the year of the vehicle's entry," he said.

Datuk Nazari said so at the 42nd PEKEMA Annual General Meeting which took place at KLCC, here also attended by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

In that, on the basis of humanity and sensitivity to the fate of the Palestinian people, PEKEMA will donate as much as RM100,000 to the trustworthy and integrity Palestinian Humanitarian Fund..

The donation was made as a sign of solidarity and PEKEMA's humanitarian spirit towards the struggle of the Palestinian people, in addition to helping to reduce their suffering due to the conflict in the Gaza Peninsula.

"It is also a manifestation of PEKEMA's support and solidarity together with the government in an effort to help humanitarian missions on the basis of beneverable, and at the same time fostering the spirit of Malaysia MADANI that supports universal security," commented Datuk Nazari.

Meanwhile, Datuk Zainuddin Abd Rahman who has led PEKEMA for more than a decade decided to resign from the position of PEKEMA President.

The decision was made to open opportunities for new leaders to take over the leadership in this unity.

In addition to leadership structuring, PEKEMA has also inaugurated new faces for the position of Vice President and PEKEMA's authority at the 42nd Annual General Meeting of PEKEMA this year. – MalaysiaGazette
